Rescue Review | About

Rescue Review was developed by animal welfare consultant Miranda Luck. Miranda is passionate about animals and has a special interest in all those being cared for in shelters, rescue, adoption and rehoming centres, kennels, sanctuaries, pounds and foster homes. In 2022, she was honoured to receive the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons 'International Award' for her work in improving animal welfare worldwide.

As a result of working with a large number of rescue organisations both in the UK and abroad for over 30 years, Miranda has identified both excellent practice … and areas for improvement.

In discussion with UK animal rehoming and welfare organisations, welfare lobbyists and veterinary professionals, Miranda recognised the need to collate and monitor the value and success of the rescue and rehoming efforts within the UK and Ireland.

Rescue Review has four main functions to help acquire this information:

Directory: Collates all rehoming agents within the UK and Ireland. The count currently stands at over 2500 (April 2022) but is changing every day. There has been an incease with rehoming taking place over the internet including organisations based on social media. The data base can be used as a means to disseminate or request information and at the same time, acts as a useful tool for both those working in the field (find and network with other rescues) and the general public; to find and rehome rescue animals. The directory also lists useful contact details of wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, subsidised spay and neutering, approved animal behaviour counseling and training and other useful contacts.

Write Review: Provides a platform for adopters to share their rescue/adoption experience and rate the areas of animals and their care, the shelter or rehoming organisation, rehoming agents and the adoption process.

Read Review: Highlights excellence and encourages others to adopt or rescue. Allows shelter/organisation/Trustees to read and react to responses and implement improvements or proffer rewards or praise.

Reporting and analysis: The information gleaned from submitted reviews can be used to determine baselines for subsequent monitoring of services, regional variations, organisational comparisons etc on customer service and facility perception via a flexible relational data reporting system.

The ultimate aim of Rescue Review is to improve animal rehoming and to determine the success of the efforts made by those involved in rescue/rehoming and adoption in the UK and Ireland.
